I do not trust the government at any level. I have to wonder if they truly have my best interest in mind. Are my elected representatives truly representing me, or some people with a lot more money than me? I am currently, at the local level, helping to find candidates to run in next years council elections. People that the public trusts, who know what it means to be "fiscally" responsible, and who won't tell you one thing while doing another. At the state and national levels I am voting for who I feel will actually do a better job for the average working American.

Federal level: absolutely not.

State level: There are still one or two trustworthy souls left.

Local level: Much easier to trust when I can walk to their house and have a beer.

Personally, I would consider becoming involved in local, maybe even state, politics, but would NEVER get involved in national politics. The politicians in Washington have forgot who they represent and how to do what is in the best interests of the American people, rather than their corporate, union, or special interest allies.

Local - Ours had to be fought tooth and nail just to make them put up an American flag at city hall.
State - Actually, the Texas legislature is pretty trustworthy despite the lack of ballot initiatives and voter referendums. Rick Perry is not, however.
Federal - Give me a break!

So overall, not really. I know some very trustworthy people that do work for the government, but the government as an entity I do not believe can be trusted at all.

No but the closer it is to home the easier it is to keep an eye on. BTW, of the three, the local government in my town charges the least taxes and provides the largest percent of educational funding. Think about it. The further away the power is, the more money they want and the less we get in return.

Yes, I think all those down at the DMV are pretty trustworthy, or the DOT, Unemployment office work for our benefit, I can list quite a few. I support local politicians, and I'm the first to donate my time to raise money or collect items for disasters and emergencies.

Local - yes
State - kinda
Federal - not really, because they don't think that my one vote really counts for much so they continue to vote for what suits them best and not their constituents.

It is like the arabian saying "trust in god, but watch your camels."

The government is a good organization, but you have to watch yourself.
