i got this reeeally cute denim mini skirt from american eagle but my parents are really uptight about skirts and they dont want to let me wear it. its really not short. and im not just saying that. its really not. and the weird thing is its 1 1/2 inches longer than shorts that i'm allowed to wear. so i dont get it. i know i can convice my parents, i just dont know how. i even said i'd wear it over a pair of shorts, but it was no good. im absolutely in love with the skirt so i really need some help. i'm giving it some time too but i really want to wear it to a party next week. help!!!

i'm 14 and i wouldnt wear a tiny skirt even if my parents allowed me to. seriously, i know whats slutty. and this skirt is not. its even longer than shorts that i'm allowed to wear. i wouldn't wear half the stuff other girls around my age do, even if i was allowed to. but i'm sure my parents have a reason. and i guess we'll talk it out and hopefully come to a compromise. i thought about just stuffing it in my purse and changing afterwords, but im not going to feel good doing something like that. sure, i'll look cute, but is it really worth it having to feel that feeling of extreme guilt. i was hoping for some suggestions about a compromise please. thanks!

I have read your question and your additional details, and I just want to tell you that you are a wonderful girl. You should hope that your parents would read this discussion and recognize that it is about you, and they would be utterly proud of you.
Buy the skirt and use it at home, show them how you feel as a young woman. But above all: Build and maintain their trust in you. If you are not allowed to use it this time, make sure they understand you respect their decision, and you pave the road for more freedom in the future.

Unless your parents are totally clueless and naive, you will succeed with the previous advice. Parents are not stupid. I pulled the silly little tricks. I've also seen the microscopic skirts at American Eagle. Yikes. How do they even cover somebody's butt? I certainly wouldn't let my daughter wear a skirt that couldn't be much more than a foot long, er, short.
What if you give the leggings argument and they respond with something to the effect of, "Yes. You walk out of the house with the leggings then take them off the second you're off the yard?" You could wear a longer skirt over it, but what if they ask you to lift the over skirt to prove whether or not you're not wearing it? You could stuff it in your purse, but what if they decide to search it? You could hide it in the car, but what if they look there?
Or, you could show maturity and respect for yourself, your parents, and others by dressing more properly covered? I get sick of seeing the little teeaged girls walk around at church (let alone school) with their breasts hanging out (and me being able to look down their shirts AND bras), and tiny little skirts. Yikes.
Gee, though, maybe I don't know anything because I am an adult who has been there, done that. Even when I did get away with something, it wasn't that great overall.

it depends...you could wear leggings with it but make sure the top looks good with the leggings or just put on a pair of shorts then once you get to the party just go change into the skirt

Ask them why they wont let you wear it and what alternatives would they approve of .I meen it could be that they are concerned ,because of your age? (I don't know myself becase obviously you didn't give it ) Or that it might give out the wrong signals to guys ,especially at a party .Just accept that they care enough about you and would appreciate their
advice .You never know they might change their minds ,if you show them that you've got some common sense in accepting their opinions.

tell them you will wear a piar of leggings undferneath it. if they fall for that, then when they are outa sight, take em off and show off ur skirt! or, if it looks good w/ the leggings, keep it like that! either way, u can wear the skirt. that is, if ur parents fall for the legging idea.

Just tell your parents that it is in dress code and you really, really want to wear it. If that still doesn't work, try wearing leggings underneath.

Ask them to give you a good reason why you aren't allowed to wear it. Maybe it is shorter than you think.
