seems as though mankind in general has a very short memory. we tend to study these type of tragedies and say " how sad " and then say " these can never happen again. " however, in a few short years mankind is either doing or tolerating others to do the same basic kinds of atrocious acts.

Like you the Holocaust has greatly sorrowed me, but it is not the first or last time there has been genocide : Native Americans, Yugoslavia after the fall of the Iron Curtain, Somalia, and now Iraq and Dafur.
With all these examples it seems to be an unfortunate fact but genocide seems to somehow be part of the human condition and not an aberration.
Be for human rights, think peace.

never forget that the Dark Side lurks in people and can take over not only people but whole countries. Did you see The Lord of the Rings? When Tolkien was writing those books, Nazi bombs were falling about his head in England,; and Sauron sat not in a mountain hall, but in the Reich Chancellory in Berlin.......

Is it coincidence that George Lucas had the Imperial Storm Troopers wear German WW2 design helmets and uniforms?

If we dont remember the lessons of history we are doomed to repeat them....

Then live for a better tomorrow and quit watching the History channel! It's sad, but dwelling on it is Depressing! Hopefully mankind will learn from our past? ....I hope! Geez...now I'm depressed!
