That's the hard thing about English.
Some of the rules are just.... have nothing to do with the grammar or the rules, and that the hard thing about English for people who don't speak it.

That is one of many exceptions to rules in English. Like, "gh" is ponounced like an "f" in "laugh" and "tough," yet it it silent in the words "thought," and "through."
That's why English is hard to learn AND hard to teach.
