As in you are the father taking a few months of to help the mother, then no You are taking a voluntary hiatus from work without losing your job, you can use your vacation but that is about it. if you are the mother then that would depend upon your insurance, and what they cover, and the amount of time will be limited. Most Woman Take Out Short Term Disability in planning ahead for Maternity Leave. You have to take this out like a year in advance.The problem is usually you are back to work by time you start getting checks.
My Husband worked 2 Part Time jobs to cover my income loss for maternity leave.
Some women save up vacation time and sick days.
I have never heard of men getting paid for Paternity leave either, most use Vacation Days.

It depends on the company. Most companies do not offer maternity pay. Moms can use short-term disability coverage to compensate them for some of the time off. Some companies offer a graduated rate (i.e. 75% for the first 30 days, 50 % for the next 30 days, and 0% for the remaining 30 days. If you have a good benefits package, then you might get 90 days paid leave. It's rare these days, but some companies are trying to focus on being more family friendly.
Depending on the size of the company, they are legally required to give you 12 weeks of leave, without losing your job.
By the way, the United States is one of the worst countries in the world for providing support to new mothers.

Well I would suggest check with your human resources department. In the states, you don't get paid for maternity leave. But I have heard that some european countries and possibly canada do pay for maternity leave.

as long as you are contributing to EI, and have the required amount of hours, you should have no problem recieving EI for maternity or paternity leave. You are able to take a year off at 55% of your annual wage

If your company has short term disability than yes, but other than that no. In the states we have FMLA which secures your employment. I would ask about Short Term Disability is that is available.
