I have a couple gaps in my resume because I do not list jobs that I worked temporarily that were not related to my field... like now.. I'm a former Network Engineer that is waiting tables at iHOP because I can't find work and need SOME money...

no, but be prepared to answer for those gaps in an interview. and then be prepared to explain why you were working at i-hop if you're such an expert in your field ( i don't mean that as an insult, I know finding a good job takes a long time and its a good idea to get some income in-between jobs, but just be prepared with this explaination)

The other option, if the gaps aren't very long, is to stetch the dates of employment so the gaps are only a few months, When an employer sees this, they will assume you just took a few months personal time between jobs, when they verify your previous employment, they won't pay attention to the exact dates, as long as you are close

I would choose the first option: leave the gaps and explain in the interview, but both are reasonable.

Good Luck.

I wouldn't put them on there if they were stop gaps and unrelated to your potential new job. If you are applying for an IT job I am sure they don't care about the 3 months you had to work at McDonalds in order to pay your rent.

You could list the dates and put asterisks next to them. Then let the interviewer know that you would be happy to fill in the blanks if needed but that none of it is applicable and you wanted to save room because you are so efficient :)

The advice from HIREBOOKKEEPER is the best. Don't leave gaps. Combine them into one listing labeled something like "Various part-time jobs."

Group them together with some dates and put what you did and where. No gaps are better. Shows you are ambitious.
