A large majority of the fans vote for the players on their favorite team regardless of if they are the best at that position or not...couple that with being able to vote up to 25 times on line and the large market teams have a much larger advantage that their players will lead their respective positions.

For true baseball fans this may not sound 'right' but that is also why the fans only vote in the starters and the manager and players get to select the reserves, pitchers etc...

In regards to Cano he is probably not the best choice at 2B..in my opinion that would be Upton. I think he is the most exciting choice. Roberts and Polanco have virtually no extra base power nor the pure athletecism as he does.

just my opinion...

That is exactly the problem when you put the responsibility in the hands of the fans. However, MLB is well aware of this but feels the all-star game is a game for the fans. A few year back I didn't have a problem with the fans voting, but now the winning league in the all-star game has home field advantage for the team that represents their league in the world series. I believe MLB should go back and take another look to see if they should select the all-stars a different way.

Cuz the All-Star game is pretty much a popularity contest. Obviously Yankees fans won't vote for anyone else, and there's not enough Orioles fans that can match Yankees fans. Also explains why Hanley Ramirez isn't in the top 5 for SS voting in the NL. There's no other Marlins fans out there besides me! Well there are a few, but not enough to vote for Hanley.

Lord Vader is right, its all a popularity contest. I'm a Cards fan, and even I think its wrong that Albert Pujols has more votes than Prince Fielder. Albert is a well-liked player. He could probably be hitting below .200 with only a couple of homers, and he would still get the most of the votes. The All-Star team is usually never the most talented team, its the most popular team.

I hope Cano goes 5-5 and hits the game winning homer in the bottom of the ninth.

I'll thank him for helping the Red Sox get home field advantage in the playoffs.

My strategy is to vote all the AL Studs and all the NL Duds. That way the Sox will get the home field...

What about Pedroia? Hitting over .330 as a rookie for the Sox and he's not even in consideration at second base. It's not always about the big market teams...

Money talks????? What is she talking about???? What, is Robinson Cano paying baseball fans to vote for him? Is that what it is???

Anyway, people always vote ignorantly in the all star games. They don't care about stats, who deserves it, etc. It's all about popularity. How many people know that Brian Roberts of the Orioles is having a great year??? Hardly anyone.

Ah.. My good man. Its a popularity contest. You can vote as many times as you like on the site. People have created multiple accounts and done so.

New York has anywhere from 3 to 5 times as many people living it in comparison to the other players cities you have listed there.

The Mets fans did the same for the Mets players as well.

Who has been the best second baseman since the All Star game last year? Robinson Cano.

There is no set rules about how the starters are chosen -- you vote as you want. Despite his month-long slump, Robby has a lot going for him. The others are also decent choices.

Hes only in the allstar game because he plays for the most popular team in america, the New York Yankees(even though they suck). Also, a players past has a lot of peoples desicions.
