Why do you smile?

I smile for a variety of reasons:

(1) As a reaction to other people smiling. [Whether I know them or not.]

(2) Because I am happy.

(3) To attract attention.

(4) Because I see somebody I know or recognize [but often don't remember the name of that person].

(5) Several years ago, I tried an experiment. I would smile at perfect strangers for no reason at all. You know, some of them even stopped and talked to me. It ended up being a most pleasant experience.

ok, i was partially joking
but if i ever have a reason for smiling, than its not a real smile

when i smile unconciously, thats when i truly smile, but at those times i dont even know why the hell im smiling
same goes for laughing

i dont usually smile unless im with someone i care about. i dont do it on purpose i just am usually thinking about other things then remembering to smile. but when im with someone special i am especially happy, an i also want them to know it , an by smileing they can see how much happier they make me.

Me, personally, or the human population in general? If the human population in general, because that is our barbaric way of showing that we're happy or content. In many animal cultures, the baring of teeth is a challenge.
