Sometimes I talk to people and there are long pauses when I talk. I sound retarded when I talk to people. Or when the words come out,for example, instead of saying "there", I say "they". I don't know why I'm misusing words and stuttering. Confidence maybe? Or when I am leaving a message for someone, I forget what I want to say and there is a long pause...Instead I say umm. Please help me sound intelligent. This happens when I am talking to people who make me nervous. I am usually very articulate and my words flow.

This happens to me sometimes. It takes practice, but consciously slow down and enunciate. It may sound slow at first, but it will be clear. Then as you stop worrying that you can't be understood, you will be more comfortable and be able to speak more freely. Also, I think this happens to a lot of people, so you are not alone.Good Luck.

The next time someone asks you a question, pause for a minute before answering and decide what you want to say. Take it easy. And if you still mess up, try to laugh it off. Say something like "Wow, I really messed up that word! What I meant to say was..." And another thing; strike the word 'ummm' from your vocabulary. Instead, either let the silence go on, or you can even say "Can you wait a moment while I think of what I was going to say?"

Practice speaking with a pencil in your mouth. As if you were biting it sideways (one end on one cheek and the other end on the other cheek). This will help you with your stuttering. It helps you pronounce the word. As for confidence, the word of God says: I could do all thing through Christ who strengthens me. Phil. 4:13

Stuttering can definately be cured with some self hypnosis. Self hypnosis, make no doubt, is an EXTREMELY powerful way to change your undesirable habits, characteristics, etc....if you do it right. I have access to some good ebooks if you are interested. Just email me at mr_mistur@yahoo and I'll refer you to a few publications if you like. Good luck!

Try singing karaoke in front of a room full of people, that cured me! A lot of liquid courage is sometimes necessary to get the ball rolling though!
