We still have another two more summers left of GWB and his oil companies tyrant grip on society. Is congress just as guilty if they let them keep gouging americans pockets?
Isnt waiting until the 2008 election too long to wait to fix this major crisis?

When you are at war spending billions of dollars to protect halliburton assets,I would call that an energy crisis. Oil gives middle east more money...THE MONEY SHOULD STAY IN THE AMERICAN ECONOMY.

I think John Stewart said it best. He was talking about the annual memorial weekend gas peak, he called it "bizarrely consistant." It is. We will always get screwed at the tank, especially with Bush in office. No matter if we are using less barrels or using hundreds over our limit. The only fix is better cars and a system that will stop using our nonrenewable resources. That may take a while and too many people at the top make money when gas companies profit.

I'll do you one better! A bet another new Hummer will be out in no time!

There is one thing Congress can do about gas prices right away--lower the taxes charged by the Federal government on gasoline. Why don't they do it? Democrats are in charge of Congress and they never met a tax they didn't like. Although to be fair, Republicans were in power long enough to recognize a need to lower these taxes and took no action either. The other thing Congress could do would be to take a good hard look at the regulations that make it so difficult to build new refineries in the US and find a way to make it easier to do without compromising the environment. The problem with this is that the environmental lobby has such a hold on this issue that it is unlikely that it will ever happen. Finally, they could try to encourage the growth of alternative energy sources and/or vehicles that run on something other than fossil fuels, but any of these options would take too much time to implement. FYI--GWB does not control the price of gas, nor do oil companies. Like any other commodity, price is set by the laws of supply and demand, and from the looks of things, demand isn't going to get any smaller anytime soon.

I've been driving around for free for about 8-9 monthes now. I found out something I could do to avoid the prices at the pump alltogether. I'm working on a business plan to compete with the oil companies now but the major problem (to be honest) is distribution.

It involves cleaner alternative fuels also. But let's face the reality here. It's not just Bush and the oil companies. If the Democrats truly wanted to help the American people they have it in their power to have done so.

Both major parties are puppets (aside from folks like Congressman Ron Paul) to the owners of the Federal Reserve - who also own nearly all major industry in the United States. The hallucination that America is a free and independent capitalistic nation is an illusion. It's the big lie.

As long as voters keep voting the way they've been voting and consumers keep buying what they've been buying things will remain the same until they get worse.

Why is it that whenever anything sucks, even if it isn't and ought not be under the dominion of the US government, somebody out there always screams, "WHY ISN'T THE GOVERNMENT DOING ANYTHING?!!!!!!!!1"

You're the reason that we're overregulated and overtaxed. You go through life like a child, always looking to some authority for assistance. When you moved out of the house and became an adult, the government took your parents' place.

What is the government supposed to do? Seize the oil companies, steal the profit, redistribute the money, and sell gasoline at 20 cents a gallon just so you won't complain any more? Come on. If you really want our worthless Congress to do something about the "energy crisis," why don't you write to your Congressperson and ask that the government suspend its gasoline taxes and write to your state representatives and ask that regulations regarding how much gas station owners must charge for gas be eliminated?

Your ability to understand economics and government seems to be zero. Gas is more than $3 a gallon. There is no energy crisis. In the US we are using gasoline faster than it can be made by US refineries. The fault lies with left wing liberal loonies. Environmental rules and endless lawsuits have prevented new drilling and new refineries. Put the blame where it belongs. Congress is doing the right thing by letting the free enterprise system work. If you don't like it, don't buy gasoline. Don't drive. That way, it won't cost you anything.

Who do you think were major contributors to the Democratic congressmen elected over the last 50 years?

Thaaaats right. Big OIL.

When the American people convince the politicians running for office that they will not vote for anyone who takes money from oil companies, the energy policy will change. Not before.

yea...I hope the Democratic candidate says they'll reduce gas prices. They will burn in that lie...big time.

Fuel prices are determined by supply and demand. The President has nothing to do with it. Congress, however, makes the rules...and right now 58% of that three dollars goes to the government from taxing our fuel.

2.6% is profit for the Oil Companies. So your little rant has only proven that you did zero research on the topic

Don't forget Al Gore owning a super large share of Occidental Oil. You lobs always seem to give him a pass. Of how about Hillary and Michael Moore owning more shares of Halliburton than Cheney, funny how you folks gloss over it.

Clean your own rats nest before coming to my house, okay.

I blame all the environmentalists who block every attempt to drill the oil we have in our own country. They also continue to push for regulations that make building additional refineries extremely expensive. You can blame them for the gas prices. When you restrict supply, prices go up until supply and demand are in equilibrium. That's Economics 101.
