What has happened in the past ten years? (1997-2007)?

Please, if you can, name as many things (both good and bad) that has happened in the world (major stuff...not small stuff..).
Its for a letter thing for two of my very good friends...but its hard to explain...

I would highlight:
Technology -- Internet and cell phone usage has changed how we live and do business. Debit cards have changed how we deal with money. Express carriers have revolutionized how we send packages.
Health - Major breakthroughs in the treatment of malaria, AIDS, and cancer have lengthened lives. SARS and other diseases have given us new scares.
Political - Colonialism has been replaced in many countries by other forms of government. Europe has become much more united by currency and trade.
Globalization - Offshore work has spread jobs around the world. Starbucks and McDonalds are literally everywhere.
Environment - Global warming has become more of a concern for how we get our energy.
Population - Population growth has slowed and even reversed in some countries. Population is growing faster than anticipated in some third world countries.

98-Bill Clinton impeached for lying about his financial dealings, although it was all REALLY about his having an affair with an intern Monica Lewinsky.

99- Y2K scare the entire planet was worried all computers were going to shut down jan 1 2000, nothing happened. However the major american network had some great coverage of all the ' millennium' celebrations.

2001 September 11 the twin towers were hit by a plane flown by terrorists , pentagon was also hit , one plane goes down in a field in Pa. No -one on the planes survives and there are thousands of causulites in the twin towers and at the pentagon.

Bush declares was on terror , thanks everyone but Canada , who actually saved alot of people by allowing three thousand planes to land at all their major airports.

War in Afghanistan begins , Canadians and Nato forces , Aussies commit forces.
2003 War in Iraq, most of the world not happy about it especially when we find out there were no weapons of mass destruction, Bush lied and careers were killed for Colin Powell, Jos. Wislon and his wife the CIA operative .
2004 Bush re-elected , John Kerry smeared by the Swift boat commercials. John Edwards wife Elizabeth diagnosed with breast cancer.

Liberal PM is defeated in 2006, replaced by Bush apologist Stephen Harper and the Conservatives in Canada.

Bush still in government, 2008 election campaign begins in earnest in 2007 with a slate of males wearing similar non descript gray suits and Hilary Clinton.

i think of it grow to be those planned 'happenings' the place somebody could submit a message on a board for thoroughly unrelated human beings to look in a undeniable place and at 2 p.m. all and sundry makes fowl sounds. This is going on for 5 minutes and then all and sundry leaves. This wasn't purely a pair dozen human beings, this grow to be 1000's. i think of maximum of those have been in NYC, yet i understand they passed off someplace else besides. humorous. i does not evaluate 9-11 in the class of 'loopy.'

the internet is everywhere.. gas went up
the things they could do in medince was not there then that is now.. my twins died from twin to twin syndrome in 1991 and now i hear if i would have had them now they would have a chance at life..i know that was 6 yrs as what your asking for.. but med miracles that they had 10yrs ago they did not have they have now
