Every 60000 miles. Just a warning depending if you have a interference engine if the belt brakes it will do head damage. I had a 1992 Toyota Celica and the belt broke it cost me $1,700 to fix it.

Check your manual or with VW. Many VW's do not require belt replacement at the same intervals as most other cars.
BTW, the usualy interval is 60,000 miles.

do not take a chance on this engine.. u can go by the owner's manual. or do it every 30k. change it early and it won't break as easy. u don't want to gamble on this issue.
