For Black Women Only!?

I'm a black and latin woman. I want to know what do you feel about black men and their respect (or disrespect) for women today. Do you feel discouraged? Encouraged? Do you date outside of your race offen, or not at all? I think personally that black men are being more and more disrespectful of women. I also think that they make it cool for other men to disrespect us. When you find a good black man he's worth the world, but they seem to come few and far between now-a-days. I would like to change my mind. So I'm asking.

I mean also in music, in public, and at clubs. Every where! I agree that women need to respect ourselves (and I do), but I'm not taking responsibility for any grown man's thoughts, words, or actions.

A question doesn't makes us look bad. It allows us to talk about it. If you didn't like the topic feel free to choose another. Some black men are very disrespectful, and us black women need to acknowledge it in order to change it. I agree that we need to get ourselves together in order to be effective. Since we are the ones the mainly raise our young men, we need to unplug them from the thinking that they should disrespect & degrade their women. Like I said a good black man is worth the world! But I want all black men to aspire to be good black men. Not just ruin their lives to stay fly.

There are definitely good black men out there, they are just harder to find than the crappy ones. I have never had a problem finding a respectful and respectable black men. I have one right now.

I have definitely come across my fair share of disrespectful black men. But, at the same time, I think some of us black women need to show a little more respect for ourselves. I think once that happens, then the men will start to realize that they can't get away with such disrespect.

All black men aren't disrespectful. I have met and dated some black men in the past that were very respectful. However, I have met some that were very disrespectful. I feel that they use it as a defense.(yes I know that may sound dumb) I think that most men, of any race are intimidated by women being independent. They find out that we can make it with out them and this disturbs them. So that in turn makes them defensive, they in turn do whatever, name calling, being rude, disrespectful, mean because they don't know what else to do. Do we have to take it, no we don't. However when they see that we aren't going to take it they either, back down, or leave.

I know some non-black men that will only date women outside of their race but they don't run to every ear that will hear them and disrespect their own women.

MOST of the black men that are complaining and being disrespectful are usually uneducated and most often jobless. I dont' care when they go on their rampage of deragatory remarks simply because more often than not its some type of issue w/ in yourself.

Like I have stated I know some non-black men that will only date women outside their race but they dont' go and make remarks about them down granding them because they know they would be talking about the woman that gave birth to them or the other (inster race) in their family.

I don't date outside of my race, I am fortunate enough that I can date teh ones that are far and few between. They're not all bad but the ones that are the most outspoken give the good ones a bad name.

Like piscesgirl said, the ones that I see disrespecting black women are the ones who are uneducated, jobless, and are on a power trip. But you also said it yourself. You black women need to show you selves more respect and by that I mean: Stop sleeping with everyman that tells you what you want to here, stop going for those uneducated thug wannabe ******, stop listening to music that portrays disrespect for black women (rap), and last but not least stop thinking that every black man that has a good head on his shoulder is soft.

I am not generalizing here but I am just basing my answers off of MY experience.

i am half black and hispanic and i really don't think race has anything to do with it. if a person doesn't respect you then you shouldn't be with them. i have met men of different races, some good some bad. i don't put labels. if they are dumb, i just leave them alone.
