In 20 years you can ask them where's the coffin when they have skin cancer and you don't! If you like being pale, stay pale, it's not a rule to be tan in the summer. If you do want to start getting a tan though, start going to the tanner for about 5 minutes at a time a couple days a week, that will just brighten your complexion and get you a nice base tan started!

Whoever said that to you is a total ***. I am also very pale and it sucks. The worst for me is when someone comes up and puts their arm next to mine to "compare". It makes me feel really bad, but people do it constantly--especially now that it's getting into the summer months. I'm used to everyone being tan all summer except me. There is nothing I can do about it except try to be happy in my own skin. I agree with some of your other respondants, that people that go tanning end up looking old and wrinkly.

Tan always looks good, as I have grown up I realize how good pale can be. It means no tan lines, and the skin stays soft and gets less wrinkly, so you will not age as much. Remember, ages ago being tan was a sign that you were lower class as that meant you were a field worker.

I hate to be unhelpful, but I find both really attractive. (Good skin is on my list of physical features I like, but there is no color attached to that). Skin-wise, my favorite girlfriend was a very tannable brunette, who gave me the best of both worlds--really pale in winter and really tan in summer.
My advice would be to worry little about getting a tan--you'll look great anyway. But if you really want a tan, the spray on tans (I use Neutogena) aren't bad if you are careful to apply them evenly. Once you get a light base tan, get in the sun (with sunscreen) and deepen it naturally.

I'd rather be tan, but I think pale girls are prettier. I guess whether or not someone looks good tanned really depends on a person's hair color and skin type.

Do not tan! If you are pale like me, even if you try to tan, it won't look natural. I am 35 and wear sunscreen every day. I still get my ID checked when I buy beer. People can not believe that I am my age. Besides, do you really care if someone likes you or not based on how dark or light you are?

It's always nice to have a little color. I'm not SUPER pale but I'm also not tan, at all. I suggest you maybe catch some rays so you have a little color, but don't over do it.
