As a sociology major, i would have to say sociology is not racism. It doesn't separate people based on their races, but rather studies the way different people live in a society. ALL people, ALL races. and it doesn't specifically focus on races, it also studies effects on children (for example, the effects barbies have on children), gender roles in society, deviance in society, and there is also a class at my University titled "Social History of rock and roll" so it is not a racist program. Plus it would be impossible to "abolish" sociology, because it will always be there. people will always try to understand why people do the things they do and so on.

Actually I am teaching SOC 101 this summer ( about 10 minutes to class 5). (It's not my usual subject area but I am doing it because of a accident.) Today's topics are racism and aging. The way I am teaching it is that we need to look at the world from others eyes. I plan on showing ""The Rosa Parks Story" today. Then we will have a short disscussuion on it and how we view people with obvious physical differences (aging fits here).

We need to acknowledge differences and understand them. Not ignore them.

Sociology is the study of groups of people. There's no doubt that the experience of most African-Americans, for example, is different than that of European-Americans. And while they have some experiences in common with Asian-Americans and Native Americans, there are also important differences.

Racism means treating people as less because of their race. It doesn't mean we can't seek to understand the experience of belonging to one racial group or another. Indeed, this study is one of the most potent weapons against racism.

racism means being biased against certain races, not noticing the difference.

plus I think you mean anthropology. Sociology is usually the study of social systems and interactions, while anthropology is the study of different cultural and ethnic groups. Sociology may use th distinctions set by anthropology, but it doesn't create them.
