06 Democratic candidates promised to vote to end the war, and they did this several times. Bush vetoed the funding bills the Dems sent which included a provision to withdraw the troops by a certain date. Dems lacked the votes to override, Bush's veto, what could they do? Play chicken with Bush to see if he would order them out of harms way by defunding the war? Bush is so unreasonably stubborn he was likely to leave the troops there without equipment and pay. Rumsfeld once said, "you go to the war with the army you have, not the one you want", and Bush echoed this sentiment. The Dems did the honorable thing by not allowing our soldiers to be used as sacrificial pawns.

It was understood that they would return the troops home as soon as possible .
That does not mean a two year withdrawal of forces leaving behind some 50,000 at the 14 permanent bases built with billions of wasted tax payer dollars .
This was not what Bush sold America on . This is not suppose to be the country that we take over to place advanced troops and supplies to wage a war for oil in the future . Or to deter such a war from happening .
When we get leaders who will honestly voice their own plans and let the people decide we will have found a leader .
One can not lead a nation of free people and still operate honestly by telling lies .
Had Bush explained the reasoning behind the need for bases in the Middle east we would of at least had the chance to offer terms to the nations of Opec .
It seems as if we are just going to take what we want .
This is putting us in more danger then in the past .
These people are patient and willing to take years to plan an attack that reaches deep into our nations morale .

They never promised that. What happened was the Republican ran on "but if the Democrats win they are going to cut and run and bring the troops home before the job is finished".

they wouldn't ever do that for 2 reasons . 1. it makes them look good to continue bashing bush and republicans - they could care less about america as long as they get elected the next go around - without the war they have nothing positive , their campaign is we are against the war - we don't have a plan but we didn't start it so vote for us . 2. they couldn't add all that pork without funding the troops .
the difference in the 2 parties is that the republicans will do what is right knowing they will get bashed by the liberal media that night , the democrats look at polls before speaking .

Aren't Democrats considered left wing, not right wing?
Beyond that, troops will need to be in Iraq for awhile, however, we should change the nature of why we are there.

I haven't heard a democrat give a speach in the last two years that didn't harp on that subject to some degree.

Remember, a demo promise does not equal to reality.
Nancy promised to bring the troops home before she was elected. As far as I know, our troops are still in Iraq.
Do you think Obama can provide an Universal Health Care, which will cost up to 120 billion a year, when he has no experience on such issues in the past?
Fat empty promise = votes. The new way for demos to win an election and fool the public.

They never promised to do anything except tie Bush's hands as much as they could.
So far, they've done that. It'll be another serious battle in September over funding again.

You need to get off the meth. The Democrats campaigned exclusively on an anti-Bush campaign.
