Because back in the cave-men days, then men had to compete with the other hunters and gathers for food, so generally speaking the competitive drive is stronger in the male gender.
More than likely, they are actually intimidated by you but wouldn't want to show it since that could be seen as a sign of weakness. So what they are really doing is trying to prove their own worth by also downplaying yours.
Keep fighting, you'll earn their respect eventually.

You shouldn't have to prove that to anyone...you come across as being a very intellectual person....your attractiveness is obviously distracting them from your other qualities....sorry, but it'll probably always be somewhat of a battle....if you're deflated and need cheering up all I can do for you is sing...guaranteed to make you laugh.

Most guys are jerks. I know, I'm one of them. It's difficult not being a jerk, but I try. I want to be nice, but when I think about sex ever 5 seconds, it's difficult.
