That is an excellent question.

All I can find is that they have some extra skin/tissue on their upper eyelid. Perhaps they evolved eyes that were open less to protect from strong sunlight. But that is just a guess - I really don't know.

Another site says it is because the Mongoloid people had to be adapted for strong sunlight and extreme cold. That would make sense as the Inuit people have similar eye-shapes and they have to be protected from coldness and from the glare of the sun on the white snow.

During the last ice age before 12,000 years ago, human populations were very small and isolated. Small founder populations can fix characters with no selective advantage or disadvantage. My thought is that Asiatic popualtions with the epicanthic fold are derived by descent from a tiny initial population, where the genes for the characterisitc were fixed (stabilised) by chance.
According to the best evidence, a small group of humans managed to leave Africa via the Gulf around 80,000ybp. All the variation seen in the non-African human populaitons derviced from that initial migration.
If you look closely at the eyes of some Africans, they also have oriental-like eyes.

The "slanted" eyelid is a common feature of people of the Mongoloid "race", which include the Indians in North America. I have no idea why it occurs and what benefit it confers.

Hi. Beauty is in the 'eye' of the beholder. Many generations of humans isolated from other humans will cause some features to become more prominent.

the way your hair or eyes look like depends on the place you live in and its climate. to adapt to those cold climates, they have eyes of that sort, i think. take people in africa, their skin is dark to protect from the hot sun.
