Within the last week, my 3 year old chihuahua has developed an obsession for the parakeet. He stands outside his cage and whines, and follows him around when he's outside of the cage. The parakeet has been around the dog his whole life and there have been no recent changes in anything; ie food, location, anything. There are also two finches in the cage which he doesn't even notice. The dog gets PLENTY of attention and has a yard outside, and has never been concerned with other birds. This is TOTALLY new and I'm not really concerned because there is no BAD behaviour, I'm just confused as to why and why now.

I heard chihuahuas can fall in love with any animal, including humans. My mom's friend's chihuahua, Sammy, is in love with me. He does the same thing. Even does something else to me that I don't like. I don't want to say it, but you know. GROSS!!!!!!

Dogs are just funny sometimes. Like my family's Poodle, Buddy he get totally out of sorts when my neighbor is dogsitting her granddogs or after he takes a bath. It could be a number of things but, take advantage if they get along and like the other guy said it's better than the dog eating the bird

Who knows? Maybe they had a conversation in animal-ese when you were at work one day, and decided they were BFF for life! What color is your parakeet? My dog has a strange affinity for anything red or yellow, even though I always heard dogs can't see colors.

Nothing wrong with that. You can find love in the strangest places. Enjoy it, beats heck out of the dog eating the bird.

well your dog grew up with the bird...so it probably looks at it as a mother-figure or a simply just as a friend.....weird right? but when animals grow up with eachother they have a bond.....i have a pit bull and a pomeranian my pit bull is 3 years, and my pom. is 7 years....my pit bull grew up with her...so she looks at my pom. as like a mother-figure or something...but all i know is she doesnt mess with her to rough because if she does my pom. snaps at her...its funny watching a little dog chasing a big dog that everybody is afraid of....anyways...its so cute whats happening with your dog and bird...you shouldnt be worried..you should be relieved that you dog doesnt want to harm your bird

particular, they could. yet preening does no longer mean they have them. Birds spend plenty of their time preening. conceal the cage with a white fabric at evening, eliminate it heavily interior the morning and verify for tiny mites. in case you come across any on the fabric, flow to the puppy shop and that they could help you. in case you notice no longer something on the white fabric, your fowl is basically preening.

You're not feeding your dog enough food. He's hungry! (Just kidding!)
