Once - Jason Bay in 2004. Several other Pirates won the Sporting News Rookie of the Year vote, which is not officially recognized by MLB.

Jason Bay has been the only Pirate to win the NL ROY award. IMHO Johnny Ray should have beaten out Steve Sax in '82.

another interesting fact is that the LA Dodgers in the early 1990s had 5 guys in a row win it, none of whom are with the team
