Not necessarily. As the previous poster mentioned, check to see if it's simply a timeout problem first. Sometimes the security settings will cause the network to require re-authentication periodically, as well.

Keep in mind, your network reliability is only as good as the weakest link- if you buy a brand new Wireless router but your laptop has an older wireless card, you might need to purchase a newer wireless adapter (and disable the existing one, if it's built-in)

What is your signal strength like where you use your laptop? Is your machine getting weak/no signal when it disconnects?

You have two things to look at here.

#1 - How old is your wireless router? Some routers seem to lose distants in range the older they get.

#2 - If the router is new and you just want to get a strong signal out of your router, you can purchaces some stronger range attenna. Check out some of these sites

no, sounds like you have it set to disconnect on timeout, look in internet explorer, connections, preferences for something that says disconnect if idle

also look in yoru router for idel timeout settings.

if you have dsl service, you may need to ask the isp to give you idle time out settings for the router.
