When one first started school at the age of five (5). We had a time of day for all different kinds of art.
1. finger painting
2. painting on a up right board with painting aprons on
3. making prints of our hands
4. making all sorts of objects for moms and dads
5. even sunday school had a time for art
6. we even put our heads on our desks and listened to classical music; and sometimes the teacher would read to us a special story while the music was playing
7. We had music classes, learning how to play any instrument we chose and were taught about all the great classical music and the people that wrote the music
8. we even competed against each other at play time (gym)
(kick ball, hand ball, baseball, dodge ball, track and field, etc....etc... to me that is a form of art therapy, because it teaches discipline a special kind of art; and believe me no one was left out.
The list is endless.
Yes I went through the sixties (60's) with all the changes.
But that foundation from the beginning was great and, brought me to a place, where I am able to say thank you God; for all my good teachers and the standards the schools and churches had when I was a child and needed them.
On the job one retired from, we always had a volunteer fair every year, well one year not to long ago a new booth was introduced to us; someone got the bright idea that children that were having problems should go to art therapy classes, that has nothing at all to do with school > well daaaaa. It should be brought back to schools, some may still have them but most do not one believes. The teachers are saying children will not stop moving around > well daaaaa. Now they want to put the children on all different types of medication > well daaaaaa.
So my bottom line is art therapy; can make one a better person and enhance ones learning abilities and social skills, this list is endless also.
I pray for our world system all the time; it seems the longer one lives, people tend to forget the good and, most are out for themselves and to manipulate, decieve, get money, and some sort of false power, people are even trying to figure out what you are thinking and bend you to there way even if it is bad, which most thinking is, if it does not line up with the word of God. When Jesus Christ is the only way; people when I was a child knew this > No one has to believe me I want you to know this, you may believe any way or one you choose, I just try with all my heart to tell the truth, you may receive it or reject it the choice is yours. LOVE and PEACE to all.

Art allows emotions to be expressed without requiring the analytical thinking that tends to occur when talking. children will frequently instinctively draw emotional pictures and relay emotional energy. Art therapy gives people a less threatening modality and bypasses resistance.

Therapy in any form is very beneficial. I think that art therapy really helps you with whatever you need to get out of your mind and be more expressive it is wonderful.
