Could be an overheating fan in the power supply. I have found most people neglect their air flow. We place the computers on the floor, etc where all the dust is. The fan sucks air through the case to cool, along with all the dust.

Unplug the computer. Take off the case, get a can of compressed air and blow it clean. This helps alot with the systems I maintain.

Something is wrong with your power, your computer's power supply, or a connection in the computer. The power is being interrupted briefly which shuts down the computer and then is comes back on and boots up. The best choice is to spend $40 for a small Uninterruptable Power Supply which will override (most) of the short power glitches while beeping to signal them and also give you good surge protection. You might also check on house power by putting a light that reacts quickly to failures (like fluorescent) on the power line with the computer to see if they flicker. If it is internal - power supply over heating or near failure - then you will need to replace the power supply.

This it a typical virus thing. You need to do a virus scan on your PC. You can download the free anti virus software called AVG from www.grisoft.com.

However I recommend you install a good AV package once you have cleared things up.

Hope this helps.

My computer did that at one point several years ago, and it turned out we had a (computer) worm.
It's most likely that you have either a worm or a virus. Run anti-virus software to try and get rid of it. you don't want to lose all of the data stored on your comptuer
