try deleting old things, go to the remove programs in the controle panel:
ask you these questions
1) do i still need this?
2) Is there a way i can reduce its size on the computer?
3)Can i just get it back from someone or somewhere if I ever need it again?
4)Am i going to use this?
5)do I need more than one of these?(if there are more than one)

delete as much as you can, its greatly helps. Also ask yourself if you have a virus or malicious program running, slowing down the computer, if you think you have, get some kind of antivirus and update it. Try to get some permanent file deleting program, because when you delete them normaly, most are still there, they are just labeled as overwritable, so you can instal more stuff on it. At the worst part, your computer may just be old. :(

throw it out the 8th story window. thats the fastest it will ever go.

But seriously, get window washer, a registry cleaner, and a spyware remover, run each of them at least once a week, and defrag your harddrive at least once a month for a clean and healthy computer.

Use a different OS.
Linux distros tend to be faster than windows on old hardware.
