The human eye has a certain resolution, i.e. being able to distinctly identify 2 objects at a certain distance. Its not too large a number. As the distance gets larger and larger, its beyond our eye's resolution and we see the objects all being merged into one another. That is why when driving by a mountain, it almost unlikely you will be able to make out clearly, trees apart from one another. Its to do with human eye resolution

Hi. Perspective. The same thing happens to a quarter when you move it away from your eye. How far does a quarter have to be to look the same size as the full moon?
