You ought to defrag when you aren't using it. It may never finish and it may bog down your surfing.

Yes, you CAN defrag while you are online. It won't hurt anything.

It should not cause any issues, but it is always easiest to defrag when not doing anything else, as it takes some system resources and slows down the laptop. I usually do it at night or at some time when I don't need to use the laptop.

There is a tiny possibility that being online and saving stuff (and being online always saves references to where you have been) will get messed up during defrag although it is designed to avoid it. The real problem is that defrag is so intense that doing anything else really slows down.

No, you shouldn't have any programs running at all (except explorer) cos' you can't close it. Defrag corrects file placement and can't do it with a prog running. It will stop defragging the minute it hits the files you are using while online.

Might cause problems... any changes that occur on the content of the drive during defragmentation will be detected and the process will need to restart. click the button to bring up the progress window and it will let you know if that's happening. i usually start a defrag when i'm going out or to bed and close every other application except explorer and disk defragmenter

Still having defragmenting questions? anyways, its ok, by my standards, but it will lag like hell if you try to load anything big.

if you are defragmenting, you need to leave the computer alone. it is working against itself to defrag the drive, while you are still using it.

Your computer may be run slower because you are running a program but you are able to use it (I believe) Hope this helps.
