I think I can help because I am a makeup artist. So here you go.

Every woman we know has a pile of makeup in her drawer that she "sometimes" uses.

Translation: Never uses, but keeps just in case she finally learns how.

Shelf life of:

Concealer- Up to 12 months.

Powder- 2 years.

Cream & gel cleansers- 1 year.

Eye liner Should be sharpened regularly. Will last up to 3 years.

Eyeshadow- Will also last up to 3 years.

Extra tip: A dark eyeshadow can double as eyeliner, in fact, most makeup artists swear by eyeshadow used as eyeliner. You'll need a super-flat eyeliner brush for this (MAC & Aveda have the best brushes). Get the brush a little damp & dab in dark eyeshadow (black, brown or deep jewel-tones work great). Wiggle the brush into your lash line focusing on the space between your lashes, then sweep the color just above your lash line.

Brushes Wash every 2-3 months in a mild detergent.

Sponges Wash weekly & discard monthly.

Foundation Check the ingredients:

A water-based foundation will last up to 12 months.

Oil-based will last up to 18 months.

You may find you need two different shades of foundation each year: One for summer when your skin is naturally darker & one for winter when you're lighter.

Extra tip: If your water-based foundation dries out before it's expiry date, simply add a few drops of alcohol-free toner & shake to get rid of clumps. No need to do this to oil-based foundations. Because they contain oil, they will tend to separate. You have to shake anyway.

Lip liner Up to 3 years.

Extra tip: Skip the push-up lipliners. They're expensive, tend to break & you never really know how much you have left until you run out. No need to spend money on lip liners, there's no secret to greatness for this product. Save your money for powders & foundation.

Lipstick Some experts say 1-2 years.

Others say up to 4 years. What everyone agrees on is that if it smells rancid, throw it out, it's spoiled.

Extra tip: If you store lipstick in the refrigerator, it will last longer. Bonus tip: Want your lipstick to last longer during the day? Shade in lips with lip liner before applying lipstick.

Mascara This product expires the fastest:

Throw out after 4 months.

Extra tip: If you don't want your mascara to expire faster than its fresh date, don't pump the wand in & out, you're only exposing the product to drying air.

Nail Polish Up to 12 months, depending on the quality & how many times you take it on a plane (the cap always unscrews on me during flights, leaving my purse a -- fume-y -- mess!)

If it's liquid: mascara, liquid eye liner, foundation they should NOT be used after 6-8 months, bacteria can grow in it and it will most often lose the pigment shade.
And you're SUPPOSE to throw away all old stuff, but I keep blush, powder and eyeshadow forever!!
We spend $20 on an eye shadow pallett, we use it all until its gone!!
Ooo, a quick mascara tip - If I find my mascara getting dried out too soon, I'll add a drop of eye cream in the tip and pump in into the tube gently, that lubes it back up again!

Saint Breeder and Confirmation Ring Kennel Here, whelped a litter in January, no milk at all, had a good dam to the litter, when we weaned them from her and started the weaning process at about 4 weeks, mixed a little goats milk, baby cereal, kyro syrup, (mush) to start teh weaning processing, by 6 weeks had them on a Kibble Mush, (warm water, and dry dog food then mashed, then finally to whole kibble, have added Dannon Non Fat Yogert to their diets now, as simply something to moisten the kibble, our older dogs (and have one that just turned 8 months gets kibble and half a can of wet in the morning and the evening feeds. But No Milk!!! In certain cases the ***** may not be able to nurse the entire litter, so then a formula is made to rotate the pups to ensure they are getting enough to eat, but they still need many of the natural anitbodies that is past from the Dam to the puppies so in these case the puppies are rotated between natural and formula. Again No Milk, the formula depending on the breeder and their mentor, have many different options on this with most using goat milk for the mixing agent over water (and not just tap water usually sterilized water and maybe a pedyalite mixture.

This article tells you what you need to know & summarizes what I've read & do w/ my own makeup.

Traincase Makeover - Makeup Life Span By Nans

When was the last time you had your makeover? How about your traincases or makeup bags? Don't you think it's a bout time to check all your stuff. Cosmetics do have a shelf life too just like any ordinary products we use. Shelf life will vary on all makeup products depending on exposure to air, moisture and light. It's also important for us to know that these cosmetics can also be a danger in our health. Makeup if not properly use or stored can be a breeding ground for bacteria and can cause infections.

Here is a detailed information to need to know.

1. Mascara - they have the shortest life span and should be tossed after 3 months. Pumping the wand in and out can cause contamination.

2. Lipstick - could last up to 2 years if used properly. It will develop an unpleasant smell or changes in color, it's time for them to go.

3. Foundation - they could last for 12-18 months for as long as you use a sponge to apply it. Throw it away if it starts to change in color and consistency.

4. Eyeshadow - powder eyeshadows could last for about 3 years because they are highly pigmented, you'll know when to throw if it becomes crumbly in texture. Cream eyeshadows last 12-15months just like any cream products.

5. Blush/Powder - they may start to change in texture after 2 years. If the powders become crumbly and uneven because of the oil residue from your fingers or sponge applicators building up on the surface.

It's sad to throw away makeup or any cosmetic products that hasn't been really used bu it is recommended to throw all your cosmetics that changed in color, texture and consistency. After all your health is much important than your cosmetics, you could develop nasty skin irritations, rashes or infections, so do yourself a favor.

Why Not? If you look at it this way, make up is just like food. It will get expired after a while sooner or later. Sometimes in the back of the make up lables they show a small icon with like a jar and a lid and it says 36M ..which means it is expired after 36 months. Not all cosmetics contain this label though.

It depends on what it is and how often you use it. Mascara should be tossed after 4-6 months. Eyeliner pencils last almost forever.

Reason being - they can get filled with bacteria and you can get a funky infection (like from mascar) or just make you break out.

If you were really good about using the applicators then you can probably still use some things, but the texture and color may have changed.
If however you're like me & use your fingers for just about everything, it's best to chuck it. It could be very dirty by now. Mascara smells when it's bad and it should always be the first thing that gets replaced.
