I have heard anecdotal accounts of African Americans in France, Germany, and Russia among others that native born or immigrant blacks are looked at poorly and discriminated against while African Americans are well recieved and respected. Is this true?

American blacks seem to be typically viewed better, even here in Morocco. Why? Because so many black immigrants to Europe (and passing through Morocco) are very recent, and many are illegal as well.

Most American blacks have been in the US for quite awhile, and so are viewed as being more Western.

That's my two cents anyway.

I think it's true about France, there are many blacks there. Germany, I'd say it depends on a district - in some districts you might not be very welcomed while in better districts you'd be respected and treated equally. And I have to disagree about Russia. In Moscow there are lots of racists, and I wouldn't be surprised if you'd attract people's attention in small towns as people there don't see black people very often. I live in a small Northeuropean country, very few blacks here and it's even a bit odd to see one in the street.

I've only been around european non-blacks and european blacks in Holland and England, I didn't see any difference between how they treated me and the dutch/british blacks. I may have been kind of a novelty to them at first since most americans they met were white, but that didn't last long.

We Europeans (i'm British/Irish) have not spent an entire life absorbing prejudiced stereotypes approximately what black women everybody is like. We take them as we come across them. My ultimate chum of 14 years is a black woman.

European Racism puts American Racism to shame. I wouldn't count on being particularly loved regardless of whether you're native or visiting.

It seems to me that people treat those of other races better than their own.
