a war between the Kingdom of Great Britain and the thirteen "United Colonies". The Patriots took control of every colony,expelled most royal officials in 1775, set up the Second Continental Congress, formed the Continental Army , and declared their independence as a new nation, the United States of America, in 1776. The war was the culmination of the political American Revolution, whereby the colonists overthrew British rule. By 1778 major European powers had joined against Britain. American Indians fought for both British and American sides.

A. A bunch of really smart guys decided that they didn't want to be under the thumb of a superpower anymore.
B. This hand-full of intellectuals told a bunch of alcoholic rowdy colonist that they would be better off being independent. (more money, better boose).
C. In a drunken rage, these rowdy colonist joined together to create the most disorganized, undisciplined, and morally bankrupt army the world at that time has ever seen.
D. Because of the leadership of Washington, allot of mistakes by the English leadership (being stuck in their outdated way of making war), and allot of luck. The drunken rebels outdistanced the English Army and became an independent nation.
E. With a newly acquired taste for blood and expansion-the native Americans, French, and Spanish didn't have a chance.
