The private home daycare seems like something that you can expand upon. First, you're dealing with individuals who have more discretionary spending than the average. You can mention to these folks that you are also available for errands, etc. In other words, these people need to remove the more routine drains on their time so that they may focus on their professions. They expect quality, personal attention; that is the reason that they selected you for their children.
Offer any services that may cater to this clientele, even small cleaning chores, cooking if you have some specialties, etc.
As for debt collection, this is a difficult role as the segment being contacted is likely under lots of pressure from numerous fronts. Yes, the rewards are potentially high as a percentage; however, one must be prepared for constant rejection and abuse. This is probably an understatement as you've been there previously. It must have some impact on the family life; keep the communciation strong!
While doing this, ensure that he investigates other employment options to remove some of the stress.
