One of the most common themes in Shakespeare's comedies was mistaken identity. He also enjoyed having poor people pose as rich people, men pose as women, etc. He had long lost twins meet each other several times. He loved to make fun of men who were lusting after women. The "battle between the sexes" was a theme that was as common then as it is now.
