What is a good, safe, natural way to induce labor at 39 1/2 weeks?

I was watching a Baby Story yesterday and the women went to the doctor and wasn't ready at all to go into labor. She used Castor Oil and went into labor within a few hours and the midwife and doctor didn't seem to think there was anything wrong with it and the doctor said she couldn't believe how fast she progressed. I have never tried it though. Anyways, it causes diarrhea which then stimulates labor and she had the baby the next day. Worth a try at this stage. I was 37 weeks when I had my son and it was far enough along to be safe. Let me know how it works =)

Castor oil recipes
Castor oil and orange juice
2 oz castor oil
1 tsp baking soda
6 oz orange juice

Castor oil milk shake
2 oz castor oil
2 or 2 scoops ice cream
1/4 cup milk
blend in blender

Castor oil shots
2 oz castor oil shot followed by sucking on a lime or lemon

Unfortunately there isn't a way to induce labor naturally. If there was a way, all of us who have gone past our due dates would have tried it. My first baby was 9 days late and my second was 11 days late! I tried everything suggested - lots of walking, lots of sex, nipple stimulation, eating spicy food, driving down bumpy roads, scrubbing floors on my hands and knees and squats. I drew the line at ingesting anything like castor oil as I was concerned about my baby's health. The warnings were enough to say, "no way" to castor oil. Full-term pregnancy is considered 37-42 weeks, so time and waiting is your best bet. Even being medically induced is not a gurantee of going into labor. My daughter had her baby on April 15. Her water broke at home, her labor stalled, so they gave her a pitocin drip and an epidural. 25 hours after her water broke, she was stuck at 8 cm dilated, the baby was turned sideways and they had to do an unplanned c-section. She had every intention of going natural the whole way, but sometimes things happen. Bottom line, both she and our grandson are doing fine now. Unless there is a medical reason, let your baby and your body decide when it's time to go into labor.

It's called waiting.

There is no such way, aside from being medically induced (which doctors won't even talk about until 42 weeks), that will work. Some people say having sex, or drinking castor oil, or walking endlessly do the trick - but there's no evidence to prove one way or another.

Babies come when they're good and ready.

Having the doctor do it...there is no other 'guaranteed' way to induce a baby that would be safe.

Castor Oil....my sister took it and had the baby within 9 hours. Walking aslo helps. Do a combination of the two for the best shot!

Your doctor can induce labor at that point...but I used Castor oil. It worked wonderfully for me. Be warned though, one of my friends used it and it did not work for her, and she was MISERABLE. Your body will not go into labor until it is ready, no matter what.

Have lots of sex....the hormones being released will help the labor come on.

Sex and walking...so I've heard. There's supposed to be something in the man's sperm that triggers labor. Have fun trying! (as long as your doc hasn't told you guys not to)
