Trying to keep a society in a steady state of fear makes it easier for a dictator and tyrant to control them. That is what Bushie and the boys are doing......and we follow like the sheep we are.....
"Why of course the people don't want war. Why should some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece? Naturally the common people don't want war neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country." Hermann Goering, Nazi
"Our government has kept us in a perpetual state of fear — kept us in a continuous stampede of patriotic fervor — with the cry of grave national emergency. Always there has been some terrible evil at home or some monstrous foreign power that was going to gobble us up if we did not blindly rally behind it." General Douglas MacArthur
When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.
Thomas Jefferson
"Without an unfettered press, without liberty of speech, all of the outward forms and structures of free institutions are a sham, a pretense -- the sheerest mockery. If the press is not free; if speech is not independent and untrammeled; if the mind is shackled or made impotent through fear, it makes no difference under what form of government you live, you are a subject and not a citizen." William E Borah
"You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police. Yet in their hearts there is unspoken – unspeakable! – fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts! Words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home, all the more powerful because they are forbidden. These terrify them. A little mouse – a little tiny mouse! – of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic." Sir Winston Churchill.
"19 terrorists in 6 weeks have been able to command 300 million North Americans to do away with the entirety of their civil liberties that took 700 years to advance from the Magna Carta onward. The terrorists have already won the political and ideological war with one terrorist act. It is mindboggling that we are that weak as a society." Rocco Goloti
Thank you to our new dictator and tyrant, George W. Bush for throwing our society backward several hundreds of years.

It does seem a little more than coincidental that in the past 6 years good news for the Democrats and bad news for the Republicans has been followed two days later (always two days - and what are the odds of that happening by chance?) by Bush Administration announcements of terrorist plots against the U.S. that almost always turn out to be bogus.
You do the math.

The Bush Crime Family is trying their hardest to instill fear into Americans that such cases are given incredible airtime when they are discovered but no airtime when the cases are taken to trial.
But the even sadder fact is that the Bush Crime Family is loosing their own installed argument about the Iraq Invasion, "We have to fight them over there, so we don't fight them here" or "We can't leave or they'll follow us home". To my calculations with 2 very publicized cases of attempted terrorism, be it us unlikely to succeed, it looks like the terrorist have finally got Mapquest.

In the 1990s through 2001 it was seen as unfeasible by both the Clinton and Bush administrations that hijacked airplanes would actually fly into WTC towers and the Pentagon and kill 3,000 people. Who could possibly think that way??
Comrade Olbermann has his head in the sand and his naked butt pointing to the skies and a sign painted on that says "Kick Me For Free." Comrade Keith is a fool, and I do not watch his program anymore.

'Keep them scared, and keep them in line'.
The sad fact is that these 'tactics' are successful.
Thanks to people like Olberman, Limbaugh, Hannity, et al.
