I think its more like you dont notice them as they are not trying to get attention,

if you were to walk down your street and see three black males two of which were dressed in suits and one who was in jeans, a t-shirt and had a mouth full of platnium teeth, a necklace with a huge pendant, and a base ball cap,

you would be more likely to remeber the guy with the jewels than the men in siuts,

that being the case, think about perception, and how you have been programed to immediatly notice somethings and filter out others

Your saying that television is presenting the African American in a more positive light and that not many people watch those music channels that you speak of,,, well taking into consideration I didnt mention either on of those channels, and the fact that per capita Black actors are more likely to play criminals than doctors or lawyers, and having one or two shows that have those actors in those roles, is by no means a reasonable representation of the facts that you are still more likely to notice the man with the chains than the men with the suits :)

They do watch to much TV. And its sad because it's so easy to find so many blacks that are willing to play the stereotypical roles of blacks that the media plays out (i.e. 50 cent,T.I., Dem Franchise boys, and almost every rapper). The only place that you could watch blacks in a non stereotypical role used to be BET but thats not the case anymore. So, naturally the less intelligent people who live sheltered lives will believe what they see on TV, once they began to see it over and over again.

Pearl Jam... anybody can make a suite up to look unproffesional, gothic people do it all the time. I've seen plenty of black people, not just men, wearing fairly plain nice dress clothes and to me they look quite professional... not at all like drug dealers... still you shouldn't judge someone's intelligence based on how they dress. For instance, my boyfriend when at home and relaxing, will wear jeans/wife beater/ du rag... just cause that's the way he dresses. He is smart, gentle, kind, open-minded, hard-working... and convinced me to stop smoking weed. He meditates before going to sleep at night, he loves hanging out with his dad and coaches baseball and softball.
