I've been told that there are some fish that Beta fish can be placed in a tank with, and they won't attempt to kill one another. Is this true? I have 2 beta's and I know they can't be placed in the same tank, they have separate bowls. I think they are beautiful fish, I just wish I could include them with other fish. Is it possible? If so, what kinds are considered non-aggressive to the Beta and vice-versa?

Yes you can place a Betta with other fish. I have a community tank with dwarf rainbows, swordtails, neon tetras, bleeding heart tetras, corydoras, platies, a dwarf kissing fish, and 1 male Betta and 2 female Bettas. My fish get along fine with no fin nipping. I have plenty of places for the girls to hide. My male is unusually calm with them most of the time. I do not recommend doing this, although I haven't had any problems. I also monitor my fish very closely.

And for the person that stated they shouldn't be put in large tanks due to the temps getting low on the bottom, Betta's are top swimming creatures most of the time. I have a submerged heater in the middle of my tank and it stays a constant 78 unless it gets very hot in my house.

Yes, bettas are some of the prettiest fish. A male betta can be kept in a tank with other fish who don't have big fancy fins or are too showy. Angelfish and gouramis are ones that they will probably fight with. And obviously, another male betta. You probably should not put them with any female bettas either, unless you have a really big tank. Then it may be ok. I think they get along with most schooling fish, like danios, but some more aggressive ones, like tetras, may bite at their fins. They also get along well with bottom feeders like cory catfish and algae eaters. Good luck!

Yes, it's possible. I have a beta in with upside down catfish and they've lived together for over a year now just fine. The males just cannot be put with other male betas or fish that look too much like a beta.

Yes. I've done that a lot. Just be sure the fish you are putting him with are peaceful, community fish. He won't give them a problem. Another thing you could do is buy a special plastic betta home that sticks to the inside of your aquarium side. You can display several bettas inside your tank that way.

Bettas are considered to be peaceful community fish really. You sholdn't have any problems out of a male betta except where other bettas (male or female) are concerned. The biggest problem with placing bettas with other fish is not the danger to the other fish, but instead the danger to the betta and his fins from potential fin nipping tank mates. For that reason I would recommend you avoid fish with the reputation of being nippers such as tiger barbs.

Yes, betta make great community fish. Just don't put them into tanks with Gouramis, they are related and compete violently, aggressive fish, or fin nippers like neons and tiger barbs.

Any nonsense about betta love small places is pure fiction.

Betas will usually only attack other betas. The problem is, other fish like to nip their long fins. Also, larger tanks tend to get a bit to cold for them, especially at the bottom. You can get small enclosures that fit inside a larger tank to keep the beta safe, and in a good spot in the tank.

They will live happily with any smaller fish (not bitesize!), but avoid territorial fish or ANY potential fin nippers (tiger barbs/black tetra/puffers). I have mine in with neons and glowlights but any small non aggresive tetras/barbs are fine.
The two bettas will only survive in the same tank if you use a divider (get a couple of females they have shorter fins but are still very colourful).

Yes they can live with other fish with out any problems, unless it is another male beta. I have 5 other small fish with my male and he doesn't bother them one bit.

Bettas can be kept with any freshwater fish except for Guppies and Angelfish.
