In the US, 1% of the population would be 3 million people. Thus, you can pobably find 'millions' of people who hold just about any opinion - no matter how incomprehensible it may seem to the other 99%.

Good question. Perhaps they would also like to be elected - twice - to the most powerful office in the world with an IQ below 80, and to be given millions in exchange for a little quid pro quo down the line (i.e. being given a 15-times-higher share of the Texas Rangers than he paid for)?
Perhaps it's that those who elected Bushie were not so much voting for him as they were voting against the sleazy hypocrites that the opposition trotted out? Like the guy who tells everyone else that they have to stop consuming the world's resources and wasting electricity while he lives in a 10,000 square foot mansion? Or the guy who married a wealthy Republican widow and promptly began enjoying that money while campaigning for the poor and flip-flopping on just about every major policy brought before Congress?
Don't blame people for choosing their own perception of the lesser of two evils, or confuse pragmatism with admiration.

Well, I admire the courage of anyone willing to be President, including those I disagree with -- which includes liberals and conservatives. I don't think any are cowards because they didn't serve in the Military (Presidents are killed in a pretty high proportion, about 10% of them were shot in office).
Presidents are always in a position where whatever they do the opposition will attack them for it. I never voted for Bush and never would, but it is odd how his critics were saying he is too stubborn and pig headed because he didn't revise his Iraq strategy, and now are criticizing him for switching to the B-H strategy they were advocating.
It will be the same if a Democrat gets elected; I'm not just defending Bush -- he is responsible for some pretty serious mistakes and has to accept the blame.
