Art should be an elective. Its nice to know, but it doesn't really do much to further you in life in the greater scheme of things. I love Art by the way and there just aren't enough walls in my house.

This is a fascinating and very interesting question. We have traditionally considered subjects like Math, History and English as being mandatory courses but have not similarly elevated subjects like Art, Art History or Music into those categories. I believe our children would become better, more well-rounded people if they were given the opportunity, even required, to study subjects like Art, so I agree that it should be mandatory. You might consider writing a letter to your State Representative or Senator suggesting your idea.

Gym and art should be mandatory. It is important to get students interested in school. Education in schools shouldn't be only about academics. Art is one of the areas that are part of everyone life and gym is very important to teach our kids how to keep fit.

Gym class should be mandatory before art. Art should be an elective. I always hated art class and music class and both were wasted slots in my day that I could of took classes of lasting value.
