Not sure who is triggering what, but there is no doubt that Russia and the USA are on different courses in terms of who they support in foreign policies, and how they source and trade oil. It all looked friendly when Bush first declared the war on terror, as Putin used that as an excuse to destroy Chechnya, but invading Iraq was a step too far for him. Bush is not keen on Putin's alliance with Iran and increasing oil wealth....who knows what will happen next?

I love the fact that people want to blame EVERYTHING on Bush, when nobody else seems to be responsible for their own actions. Putin has been turning the country into a dictatorship for several years, taking over the media and what not.

Its no secret that Russia still views themselves as a world super power even if nobody else does. The Russian pride has taken a beating and now many within the country are longing for the glory days of the Cold War with Russia was feared and respected in the world.

Russia isnt who I'm worried about an arms race wish, China is.

Another arms race with Russia, you're kidding right? First, they would have to pull back all the weapons they've sold to other places around the world (or just in the Middle East and China), but they would have to come up with the money for that. Then they would have to come up with the money to start to rebuild their stock. Russia is all but broke, that's why they lost the first arms race. And they would lose again. And as far as "another Cold war", do you really think the first one every ended? When did Russia become our Allies? In Top Gun?

Arms race, the only thing that got Putin ruffling his feathers was a defense shield. thats not a weapon, thats protection 'from' weapons.
