Yeah, the B drive was for a second floppy disc, in case you had to transfer files between floppys. However, today in the 21st century, floppy discs are no longer really used, and the existance of the Hard Drive negates the need to transfer directly between floppies. Remember, the floppy disc came bbefore the hard disc, which came before the CD/DvD. So, the disc types are in the order in which they were invented.

They did have B drives at one time - Most early IBM compatible PC's had a B drive, usually for 5.25" floppy disks. They were prevalent during the transition time between 5.25" and 3.5" diskettes.
Before the 5.25" floppies were introduced, floppies were about 8" in diameter - slightly smaller than an LP record. Computers had B drives to make it easier to copy disks - since that was the primary portable storage medium before CD-ROMs and USB drives came along.
I always snicker when I watch an old movie and see the characters struggling for control of a disk that is big as a dinner plate!

Both A and B are reserved for floppy disk drives. You can have 2 in your computer. The reason only A is used most of the time is because most computers only have one floppy drive.

B drives used to be the 5" floppy drives, and the 3.5" were the A. Long since outmoded.
