In order to be the most accurate, you need to wait up to the day you are supposed to get your period--and maybe beyond--because your body has to have to time to build up the pregnancy hormone that the tests detect. Those early tests--if you read the literature in the box, they aren't as accurate the further out you test.

I got an accurate result with the pregnancy test the first day my period was supposed to be due. I also tested again 2 more times just to be sure because I wasn't convinced. :)

You need to wait until you are due for a period. Then test. If you get a negative result but you don't get your period--wait a day or two and test again. Sometimes that pregnancy hormone just needs time to build up. Keep testing every few days until you get a positive result or you get your period. That is what my doctor told me to do. In my case, it worked out great. I am now 36 weeks pregnant and waiting for the little guy to make his grand debut.

Let me also say this--those pregnancy tests are a pain in the backside to understand. I recommend getting the Clear Blue Easy Digital Pregnancy Test. It is a little more expensive, but it tells you PREGNANT or NOT PREGNANT. You don't have to guess with the stupid lines. Good luck to you!!

I used one of the early detection tests, that allow you to test up to 5 days before your missed period, but I found that it wasn't accurate. If you read the box, it says that the accuracy gets better the longer you wait.

My example:I took an early pregnancy test 1 day before my expected period = negative result. I took it the next day (the day I was expecting my period) = positive result. I am now 28 weeks pregnant.

It's hard to wait, but testing early can be a waste of time and money.

It all depends on your hormones. My last pregnancy gave me a faint positive on the day my period was due and negatives a couple of days prior. I am pregnant now and the hpt came up positive 4 days before I was due. To be safe I would wait to test until you miss your period (maybe day after) just to be sure and not waste too much money on hpt's.

i got a positive with this pregnancy almost 2 weeks before my period was due.

i also got an early positive with my twins my last pregnancy(week or so before period due).

in fact i am pregnant for the 4th time and i have only ever waited till i missed my period with one of them.

i just use the generic HPT test and have found they work as well as anything.

I started testing with my 3rd pregnancy at 6 days post ovulation (day 20 of my cycle).
I got negative test results on day 20, day 21, day 22, day 23... and my first positive test on day 24 (10 days post ovulation).
With my current pregnancy I tested on the day my period was die and got a positive.
I used pregnancy tests from the dollar store with both pregnancies!
