My daughter just turned 5 months and she just started on rice cereal. I know its receommended to start with 2 tsp- twice daily, but I find that she can eat so much more maybe about 5 tsp. Is it ok to give her more? Also is it better to feed her formula after or before eating?

She should have the formula first as it's her main source for nutrition. It should be ok to feed her more cereal than it says, as long as she is keeping it down and digesting it ok. Watch for signs that she's full like disinterest or slowing down as she eats. I really never measured with mine once they got started. It was whatever kept them happy because they won't eat any more than they want.

As long as she doesn't decrease the amount of formula she drinks - because that's her primary source of nutrition, solids are just for practice and introduction to new tastes and textures - you can give as much cereal as she'll eat.

Do the cereal once or twice a day - whichever is more convenient for you and baby (i.e. when she seems hungriest.) and formula before - like at 6am and the cereal at 7:30 - for example.

You do not want to over feed because of the growning problem of obesity in children.

My sis normally feeds her baby formula after cereal, but recently the doc said for her to mix the formula with the cereal also.

Cereal should be given in between formula/breast feedings. Give your daughter however much cereal/formula she wants. She will tell you when she is done.

I always gave my daughter her formula first, and then mayble 1/2 hour later I gave her the cereal. You can give her more if she wants it. As long as you don't replace any formula meals with cereal then you'll be fine. :)

Formula or breast milk should be her primary source of nutrition for her age. I wouldn't overdo the cereal right now. Give her more formula if she is still hungry. Also, ask your pediatrician about this.

there's nothing wrong with eating more than what she should it's only normal she will let you know when she's full. I had trouble feeding my son cereal i couldn't even get him to eat it.
