I got a migraine about 4 in the morning LAST Tuesday. I called my doctor (I don't have insurance). She said all she could do for me was prescribe a few Vicodin. I got these on Thursday. There were 12, and I was told to take one every 4 hours. Obviously they're gone now, but they worked for the time. Now I have another migraine coming on. I have the black dots in my vision, and my eyes hurt, I'm becoming more sensitive to smells, light, sounds, etc, typical migraine stuff. So I called my doctor today to let her know that it's still there and getting ready to come back with avengence. She told me that because I don't have insurance, she can't do anything for me. I asked her if she could do what she did just last Thursday, and she said absolutely not. I think maybe she thought I was just fishing for some more vicodin, but I'm not a drug addict, I just don't want my head to hurt anymore. I live on the Iowa/Illinois border. Does anyone know ANYTHING that I can do?

Also, just to clarify, it hasn't been a "migraine" for over a week, I've had constant pain, but it hasn't turned back over to a migraine yet.

I have found that migraines are hormone related. Just before "that time of the month" start taking more calcium then you usually do. I go up to 1200mg a day. This usually combats the drop in estrogen and can prevent headaches. Also adding magnesium will help a lot! Vicodin just helps the pain, not the causes. Sometimes being dehydrated causes headaches too. Good luck kiddo!

well.. first, i have a family history of migranes, and have had them since i was like 4 years old. i sympathize greatly, i know the tremendous pain they cause. so im very sorry to hear this. for me, i take either imitrex or zomig, which both come from the doctor, and since you dont have insurance that is a real bummer. if i was you, i would go to the ER and tell the doctor your story. ask him if he can prescribe you a migrane medicine, and it more than likely will be very expensive without insurance, but the good thing is, all you have to pay up front is the cost of the scrip. so, go to the ER when you arent working, and tell him everything, and then ask him to give you something, and when they ask you about payments, you can tell them that you can make payment arrangements. i have no insurance lately and i have been to the hospital a few times in this last year. they usually only make you pay as much as you can afford each month. good luck, and i hope it gets better.

If you still had the pain then yes it was still a migraine even if you don't think it was. If it wasn't still a migraine you would not have had the pain yet. Vicodin is not proper medication for a migraine. GO in to see a doctor and get some MIGRAINE meds prescribed. Even with no insurance there must be a walk in clinic somewhere that you can go to and get migraine meds not regular pain meds.

There are over the counter migraine meds. Tylenol and I believe Bayer both make migraine relief meds. If it returns please just go to the ER. regardless of not having insurance they have to see you and refer you to a case worker in the hospital. Vicodin was not the answer it only masked the pain. You need to brake the migraine cycle. Caffeine is one way to "rid" your self of a migraine it can also cause one. But since you feel one coming on try to "rush" it out with coffee etc. I would try the OTC first. Also do not take more then recommended since this can cause a rebound headache. Good luck.

This is serious. You should go to a drug store and get your blood pressure taken. If it is high, go to the emergency room.

If not, try a COMPLETELY darkened room, cool water to sip, and no stress for 72 solid hours. This means no computer, either!

Good luck.

ok. i am no doctor but i am pretty samrt. go to your nearest drug store and get BC POWDER. it is a powder that you eat that helps with pain. then while you are there get some jazmine tea. it helps your body relax its muscles. you may just be stressed out. take a bath or grab a towel, fold it, lay on it and breath deeply. it will help a LOT!

you could go to the nearest hospital, they have to see you regardless of insurance and your current money situation.

other than that if you get some pure essential oils, lavender and peppermint and put them with water in a room burner, that should help relieve some of the pain.

Normally if you sleep in a quite darkened room that will help get rid of your migraine. It helps me a lot.

try pinching the muscle between your thumb and index finger for a min or two. It usually makes mine a whole lot better. Good luck!
