700R4 or better yet a 2004R. The 2004R came in the Monte, so you don't need a new driveshaft (it's the same length as a TH350, the 700 is longer). Properly built, the 2004R is very strong (used in many a 10 second Buick Grand National) and has slightly better ratios than the 700R4.

The 700. Being a 4 speed, the gear ratios are better, and the overdrive lets you put more gear in the diff and still drive the highway without twisting the mill to death. Also you can get whats called a "dummy lock up" converter for it to get around the lock up converter being disabled (I assume you're going for performance) without damaging the trans. Many valve body mods are also available.

350 turbo has no overdrive so I guess you are going with the 700. Just get a 700 built with the right parts and you will have no complaints.

if you drive a lot you need the overdrive of the 700R4 as the 350 doesn't have the overdrive.

On a Monte Carlo, the 700R4 should be fine.
They're just not good for towing things with a truck.

Use the trans that was designed for the car .Replace it with a rebuilt just like the one that comes out of it.
