Not sure where you live but try the Fireside restaurant in the Ravenswood community on the north side. http://www.firesidechicago.com/

It's a popular place, but not so popular where you're going to be smashed in. It's a relaxed comfortable atmosphere, casual, great food, good bar, a few tv sets if he wants to catch the game, a great enclosed patio. I think he'll like it.

Depends on how much you're looking to spend....I finally went to Tavern on Rush a few weeks ago. Good location and atmosphere. I'm always a huge fan of Rose Angeli's for Italian -- it's off Wrightwood in Lincoln Square/Lakeview. Rose Angeli's is awesome.

I saw someone mentioned Fireside -- I like it there as well. It's a little off the beaten path, though. I live in Albany Park which is close. I like the patio area there -- it's kind of different. They also have easy parking.

It depends where you live, but I would go for a good wine bar-restaurant, where you can have a really good Chianti and Italian antipasti. I am pretty sure there is such a place in every part of the world, if you search.

Mmm...Gibsons. Make a reservation - it's always packed. And be sure to save plenty of room for dessert. Fabulous, but HUGE.
