In case you crash into the water?

#1 - if you don't know what you're doing you'll kill yourself parachuting, so for the general public they'd be useless (and a brief demonstration at the beginning of your flight wouldn't be enough training).

#2 - a flotation device is a lot cheaper than a parachute.

Unless you know anything about parachuting, you can end up in a worse situation. Even if they automatically open as you jump out.
Floatation devices are for when crashes occur over water.

Because if you do need a parachute its not going to help much once you fall into water and then have nothing to hold on too....I dont think they can even open inside a plane anyway....so yeah

Because if you're going to go down, you'd want it to be in water. You'd have a better chance. If you aren't gonna land in water, there usually isn't enough time to put on a parachute and proceed to the rear doors (the front doors would possibly lead you to the engines which would be ghastly) and make an escape.

It is in case the plane crashes into a body of water. Flotation devices are used for passengers to stay afloat and calm fears of those who can't swim.

Because planes dont just hover, they crash. And they are over water most of the time. And no one is gonna jump off a plane that is speeding at an angle towards the ground.

1. It's impossible to open a plane door (opens inward) at high altitudes because of pressurization.

2. At low altitudes there would not be any time for passengers to strap them on, let alone jump out.

3. Even if they jumped, people who are not trained to use parachutes usually die.

Those are useless pacifiers.

Parachutes would not help either. Only a few doors, that's a problem.

Cuz a lot of people wouldn't be able to work the parachutes.

So that if you land (or should I say crash) in water, you will maybe be able to stay afloat! If you crash on land--well nothing will help...
