I think there should be .The US along with the UK cause terrible suffering in the world through their selfishness and greed .it goes far far deeper than the wars they start Their interference and meddling in other countries causes even more death and hardship and their so called "aid" with all its conditions keeps many countries in a position where their economy can never recover .
American people seem to have little or no idea of their Governments behaviour towards most of the world ,either that or they`re in denial .And then they wonder why they`re the most hated nation on Earth

Using the same self interest and self pride you exhibit by asking such an ignorant question? If the US were really acting in such a manner, don't you think we would have just obliterated the entire mid-east?

There are plenty of checks and balances, the right to vote, the UN (lol), the G8.
I suppose if, in your neighborhood, there was a crack house where the people were torturing children, you would just drive by as if nothing were happening. "Oh, the cops will handle it" you would say. But the cops (the UN) just sit outside and watch, and sometimes take part.
But you're the biggest badda** on the block, you are going to just sit and watch? Waiting until every last neighbor agrees to do something about it.
Get a grip man, there's more to the story than your hatred of Bush. That same newsline could read "defense shield plants seedlings of commitment to Peace."

There doesn't need to be, we already live in a multi-polar world. There's the USA, Eurpoe, Russia, China, the 'Muslim World,' India, Latin America, even Japan, while small and /mostly/ allied with the US, has it's own interests and the economic power and influence to persue them.

The current conflicts the US is embroiled in are not the result the US unilateralism, there was another force involved - the Ummah.

Similarly, the 'missle shield' is in response to the growing ballistic missle capabilities of nations like Iran. Yes, it's being used by Putin as a rhetorical tool, but that's just further evidence of the part Russia - a mighty nuclear power - plays in our already-multi-polar world.

Sure. Why not? Now who are you going to get to do it? What will be their power? The UN? Don't hold your breath. They UN couldn't make Saddam behave. They really accomplished a lot with respect to Iran and North Korea.

And are they going to check the policies of everyone else? Or just the US? Russia is over reacting but it's all the fault of the US. Give me a break. If hypothetically, the US didn't install a defence system and Iran (or some other idiot)launched a missile into 'peaceful' Europe would be angry the US didn't share?

By power you mean military? No point in fighting with them or against them, until you are economically on a par.
That is what the E. U. is all about, to form a united Europe that can lead the World in commerce and peaceful union.
Pity we (the members) can't and won't ever agree on a single thing, and place our own interests first and foremost, and I don't just mean the U.K. by that!
Second power, look to China, and the problems that will bring.

What do you mean "there should be a second power", you can't just create one overnight. It's all about survival of the fittest. Any other world power that could compete with us on equal footing would want to overtake us, as we would want to overtake them. Most likely, this would lead to wars.

The missile shield is purely defensive, it lacks offensive capabilities. Anyone who objects has it in for the US and the countries it seeks to protect, and don't kid yourself otherwise.

Not sure about that one. The Cold War didn't really facilitate more harmony in the world, and created a very destructive (economically and socially) arms race.

Second Powers produce Cold Wars, so no...this is the way it always works.

Although you are forgetting China, a rising power and extremely potent.

The UN was suppose to do that job. Its so unbelievable that killings of other human beings have to take place in the 21st century when we are all suppose to be civilized people.
