I have recently began a new career as a car salesperson. How can I be effective without being pushy

You have to be able to "size up" a potential customer in 60 seconds or less. Every customer may need a different approach. You have to be the person they want you to be.
It's a show, it's a game. You have to play it better than they can. Some people need to be pushed, some don't. The hard part is knowing which is which- using the wrong tactic with the wrong person is almost always a lost customer.
Most people HATE going to car dealers,because they know they are going to be hassled.
You make up for dealing with knowledgeable customers by gouging the less informed. That's the way it works.
