Our government pays BILLIONS of our hard-earned tax money to subsidize multibillion-dollar corporations like Wal-Mart. However, is that really compatible with the concept of capitalism? After all, capitalism is supposed to be about competition and "survival of the fittest". The companies that are able to keep up with the demands of the consumers swim, and those that aren't able sink.

I agree, but remember that Globalization has created resource markets more efficient than our own. Would you like it if the US no longer produced certain products (oil, cars, diapers, clothes, shoes, computers, etc.) because another country was more efficient? What if we went to war with that country?

Because the bottom line rules It is profitabilty for share holdrers and rewards for corporate executivies that is the dominant value guiding corporate capiitalist decisions which effect workers, consumers, the environment, and forms of governance around the world. Greed has alsways been a major factor of any social system but it is only in the current system of global corporatism that it has become, not just a factor, but the overwhelmingly priviileged value guiding the whole shebang, privileging the unending greed of the greedy, making the growth of greed the ultimate basis of society.

Dear Tangerine,
If only you were an orange then perhaps you'd realize that our government does not pay big corporations billions of dollars. In fact the government (out of the generosity of its heart) lets these corporations and individual citizens like yourself keep a small percentage in the money they pay in taxes as tax returns and rebates E.I.C etc. It was was never the governments to begin with. These big corporations pay trillions of dollars in taxes, then the government forces them to do stuff there way by saying we'll give you so much it back if you cooperate.

I am really confused as to what you mean. Corporations make money and pay big time money in taxes, they are producers not takers.
Can you cite one single example where our country gave a corporation anything other than work?
The leftists in congress in their infinite stupidity has always used the tax code to try social engineering, you know change behavior by only stealing a little of your money or taxing personal behavior they do not like. But that is not welfare.
Given incentives to companies is done to ensure they stay in America, keeping jobs and money here, that they seek new methods of producing the products they make, that they do what the congress wants them to do.
Now I have gone through pretty much all of the possibilities and the only conclusion I can come to is you are just ranting about something someone told you, that you have zero personal knowledge and much less understanding of.
Is total ignorance of economics a requirement of being a leftist anti-con, or is it something you get to forget as you go along? Do you guys do like a brainwashing weekend together, sit in circles holding hands and watch michael moore programs? Amazing, absolutely amazing.
SO please, enlighten us with these give aways of your money.

Actually, it is not compatible with the Constitution, as well as not being compatible with the concept of a free market.
It's high time to wean corporations and people from the federal government teat. Neither type of outlay has Constitutional authorization.

I would like to see some sources for this claim.
Some government subsidies have been available for years to companies that will hire certain people.
Tax cuts are not subsidies.
Millions of dollars are available for overseas advertising.
It is not quite as cut and dried as you are trying to make it. Pure capitalism? No question that the US does not operate that way.
As much as anti-cons scream now, can you imagine if we installed pure capitalism?

It is not. And not only that, Blue "liberal" states pay MORE in Federal Income Taxes to subsidise programs in Red "conservative" states.
Imagine that. And they call liberals "anti-capitalist".
What will they think of next?
