Clearly that woman thinks she's better than everyone and figured from your school email address that you're "just a student" and it was acceptable for her to treat you like that. Just the type of personality who thinks it's okay to pay below minimum wage for illegal help.

I think she was very wrong for what she did, but I think you're borderline wrong, too. A posting like that in a public forum is just fine so long as you're not making a threat or saying anything untrue (be careful not to exaggerate). But, the posts here who suggest letting the authorities take care of it are really smart. You can contact the administrator of Craigslist and petition to get her posting flagged or removed, and you could contact legal authorities.

While I admire you for standing up to this psycho, you're very lucky that the worst thing she did was contact your school. If this was a truly wacko individual they could have come after you. Be very careful and use an anonymous email account (like your Yahoo one) when posting on Craigslist.

You are incorrect on the minimum wage assertion as only applies to employees of enterprises that do at least $500,000 in business a year. Even then, there are certain situations where even this does not apply such as workers who earn tips, those with disabilities, full-time students, and student-learners. (See more information at the link below).

However, the woman's response to your e-mail was totally inappropriate. It was an opportunity where she could have educated you on the facts, just sent a generic e-mail thanking you for your interest, or simply not responded at all.

It was not appropriate of you to post a warning on craigslist warning people that she was looking to hire an illegal alien and take advantage of them; however, instead of tracking you down and contacting your school, all she had to do is simply report your posting to Admin of Craigslist and it would have been removed.

As far as harrassing her, she has no real basis; you responded to an ad, she sent you back a nasty email, you posted something about her in a public forum which basically reitterated what she has stated to you in her e-mail to you. To go so far as to track you down via your school's e-mail address and say you are harassing her is ludicrious.

You may be in trouble with your school if you violated any of their internet policies, but unless you emailed her more than once, she has no grounds to prove any sort of harrassment.

One thing you may be temped to do, but don't, is e-mail her or post anything further about her. Let it go and move on. If she contacts you again, file a complaint with her internet service provider then block her e-mail address.

Also, as an above poster indicated, get an anonymous e-mail address from Yahoo or Hotmail so it will not be so easy to trace a public post back to you. There are a lot of crazy people out there and for this lady to responded the way she did, she is one of them.

If you still have a copy of the post and your e-mails, then that is a first step. Also if the school will not give you a copy of the e-mail they received, you may have to file a discovery motion if this proceeds to court.

By writing the school, the woman has made a claim against you of a criminal nature. Therefore, it IS actionable under Libel laws of all 50 states.

I would suggest you contact at a minimum, Craigslist and send them the information and COPIES of the postings along with your demand that they investigate.

Then have your parents consult a local attorney. Because this woman sent the e-mail to your school, she can be sued in your local jurisdiction under the Personal jurisdiction rule.

That should make her day.

First of all good for you, people that think that way should be known about.
Did you keep everything you put on the board? If you kept everything you posted and no where in there did you say you were going to find her, hurt her, kill her, and or any other threatening content you shall be fine.
That is one thing that is so wonder full living in America, is we do have freedom of speech. You were just letting people know what this women was doing, and how she was doing it.
I would have even went so far as trying to get it sent to the President himself.

Once again, good for you!!!!

Let the school know you aren't harrassing her that you just checked into the job and what she told you.

What you should have done was notified the authorities to let them check into it. Never take it upon yourself to post something like this. If someone wanted to sue you, they could sure give it a good try and say you slandered them. Let the law take care of things like this in the future.

But I admire you standing up to her :) Now notify the FBI and let them know what happened and see if anyone wants the information.
