You need to know that the cops there are thieves and DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR OVER THERE. A passport is not required but a government issued identification is required or birth certificate. Also don't trust the cops and take the red taxis called taxi libres they're cheaper and more trustworthy than the yellow ones. Also beware of buying prescriptions drugs because Tijuana police sometimes do sting operations and will try to nail you on some bull sh it charges. If you run into trouble these are 2 numbers you should have:

US Crisis Management : (202) 647 5225
Tijuana US Consulate: 011526646227400

And always park your car OUTSIDE of Mexico normally get off on the last USA exit and make a right which there will be a parking place which even has buses taking you to the center of Tijuana. It costs 7 bucks a day to leave the car there. Pretty convinient.

That Tijuana is a dirty, poverty ridden, and dangerous place. The police force is corrupt and is more likely to rob and rape you than help you. That the chief of police was recently killed by the drug cartels and that they are in open warfare with the army inside the city. The drug cartels are now kidnapping people to increase their income and that the police are helping them.

You have a nice time anyway.

first of all tell your guy Friends to hide the money they have and keep around 20 bucks in their pocket

2)go straight to were your going don't go cruising or trying to get to know the city better

3)don't drink in public don't act all cool running stops and going the wrong way down the street cause its going to cost you believe me that's when rule one comes in they will search you and take whatever you have in your pocket if its 10 or if its 100

4) I recommend going to rosarito and staying away from TJ

5)pay for secure parking if you can get off in the last exit and pay for parking there and cross by foot when you do that you cross right where the taxis are and just take one to were ever you need to go its hard to drive in TJ if you've never been there before and its faster to get back across by foot
